damegreywulf:

Not that I’m intending to ruin anyone’s fun, but, did you know? Men are more affected by relationship woes than women.

In yet another “the patriarchy hurts men too” turn of events, studies are finding that more often men actually feel more emotional turmoil in relationships, and are simultaneously more likely to bottle it up and/or otherwise be unable to express it properly (ex: turn to violence, alcohol, or substance abuse) when a breakup occurs.

Why did I mention the patriarchy? Because it’s really easy to see what’s to blame here. Think about it: men are more likely to invest emotionally into a single person, less likely to have people they can talk to, less likely to be able to talk openly about themselves… why? Because of the idiotic societal worship of “hypermasculinity” that demands men be stoic, “manly” he-men, that mocks men who are expressive, that shames men who feel wronged or hurt. It encourages women to be chatty and touchy-feely, but then it says men can’t be like them, they’re not allowed, otherwise they’re “pussy-whipped”, “wussies”, “fags”, “pencil-dicks”, “virgins”, “losers”, “girls”, or other things that are intended to emasculate them (and also encourage misogyny, considering it’s drilling “femininity is bad” into their heads). Not only that, it says you can’t love men the same way as women - you’re not supposed to encourage or comfort them, they have to “tough it out” and “walk it off”.

I think the researchers got it all wrong in blaming it on “this generation” and fucking divorce. It’s NOT just this generation - doesn’t past behaviour of men in America show this? Even before now, drinking was “manly”, stoicism was “manly”, abusing your partner was fucking encouraged and raping your wife was okay and these things were your “manly duty”, yes men were taught these things and shunned when hurt just like they are today. This isn’t just “this generation”, it’s been the last several generations. We just haven’t “scientifically” observed it yet.

In the day of our Forefathers and Shakespeare, intellectual, poetic, polite, clever, and otherwise expressive men were valued over rude, crude, ignorant, muscled brutes. What the fuck happened?

Its true I am on the men side when it comes to break ups, but thats because I dont want to deal with the crippling sadness I feel so I turn to video games to get my mind off of it. I also don’t get over people easily.
